Owhwhwhwhwhwhwhwhwhwhw, my God. That is a mouthful. Well, whenever I had an issue with jaws not loading, I removed all freedom scientific stuff, deleted all user ftuff in my profile, and from the shared settings for all users. When I did that, it returned to normal after reinstall.

Subject: Jaws 10 stopped working

Hi Folks,

got an interesting dilemma here. I am using jaws 10 on an xp pro system with
all the updates.

A little back ground first.

I turned my system on,and all was ok. I have outlook express set to open
upon start up. When I tried to read my first message, it didn't start
reading like it should. it took way too long to start reading. I pressed
insert + numpad 3 to invoke the read all. Then jaws would refresh and start
reading from the top. So, I closed outlook express.

Next, I checked and noticed the two updates from microsoft. So I installed
them. This required a restart, of which I did. The system seemed to restart
fine.

Next, since jaws 10 had been not responding properly,I thought that I needed
to do a repair on jaws 10. But for some reason I could not get a repair to
be done using the run dialog box. so, I went to control panel to remove
jaws. There, I noticed two other things that I thought should go. One was
jaws 12 talking installer, the other was jaws 7.0. Didn't need the jaws 12
talking installer since I had already remove jaws 12 demo from my system.
Jaws 7.0 was going to be removed since I had jaws 7.1 installed, and just to
clean up some room off of the hd. First to go was jaws 12, then jaws 7.0.
Then the system needed to be restarted.

When it restarted, no sound was heard at all. I had some eyes check it out
and a blue screen was up, with no technical details of any use. So, I
restarted the system, and chose last known good configuration.

When it restarted, jaws 10 would not start. Jaws 9 would though. Plus, a
balloon would pop up saying that the video settings were set to the lowest
configuration. checking display properties, the screen was set to 800 by
600, and 4 bit color. These settings could not be changed for some reason. I
removed, and reinstalled jaws 10, but still no go.

So, after monkeying around awhile, I just decided to use system restore.
Chose the earliest time for today, before the microsoft updates. System
restore said it worked fine. but yet jaws 10 would not start. Either by the
icon or the start menu.

This is where it gets strange and the problem popped up.

I have jaws 9 running to see what was going on. So I decided to run the jaws
10 install file. It started to work just fine, then the following error
popped up:

Windows Installer
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that graphic 132 the patch
package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package.
OK

After pressing ok, the installation ended. yet this was the same file I had
used earlier to reinstall jaws. Jaws 10 will still not start.

One other note. When I remove any version of jaws, I do not remove the user
settings.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Rich
