JFW and Epson scanner panel

I have an Epson scanner that I use with Kurzweil software and which works
fine. But when I try to use the scanner Smart Panel to scan a document for
other purposes, such as an attachment to an e-mail, it takes me ages to
navigate using Jaws. Anyone with experience in this? The jawskey + F1
offers little help, nor do there seem to be any helpful hotkeys.
