  Jaws will say selected because as you arrow down, said file etc is selected. 
To shut this up 
  1. go to your default config 
  2. under text processing tab to say selected and space bar until you here 
none.

  JAWS 7.1 seems to say "selected" as I arrow down lists. I cannot find a way 
to shut it up in verbosity settings or in config.  I really can't use 7.1 
without getting a little nutty listening to that.  I'm sure I'm overlooking 
something.
