it's all about preference really I would say. Yup the tripple talk USB is
pretty damn reliable and rock solid. However you are probably going to have
to get used to the speech. It's different than eloquence. It sounds even
more robotic than eloquence does to my ear, but remember, everyone's ear
for synthesizers is different. It's all about what we're all used to
hearing. I've been using a dec-talk express for 7 years now and I'm really
going to miss it if/when it dies.
But again, it's all about preference. Yes, you do spend a little more money
for them, but trust me folks, in the 7 years I've been using a dec-talk
express with JAWS and Window-eyes on this and the other computers I've had
over the years, I have never! experienced even one little bit of
stuttering, not even once. The speech is solid and smooth just as it should
be. To me, software speech is a giant step backward, but I fully
understand that not everyone can afford a hardware synth, especially with
the high cost of assistive technology. So if you can ever afford it, please
don't pass up the chance to get a hardware synthesizer. You won't regret it.
