This is true. The accessibility of Open Office for Windows is highly
lacking. However, judging by the fact they're making it work for Linux, my
guess is they're trying. The problem is, like most linux programs, it's
designed primarily to work on linux, simply because linux is more in tune
with the open source phylosiphy.

Let's clear a couple of terms up here:

OpenOffice is a productivity suite similar to Microsoft Office

Linux and Windows are two separate operating systems

JAWS is a screen-reader for Windows.

Orca is a screen-reader that works with the gnome graphical desktop for
Linux.

JAWS cannot operate in Linux, but Orca does operate in Linux and works well
with OpenOffice.  Also, Voiceover for the Mac operating system works well
with OpenOffice.

I am not aware of a Windows screen-reader that works well with OpenOffice,
although I do hear that ZoomText does work well.
