JAWS 6.0 and MSN Messenger 6.2

Hi,
I am running JAWS 6.0 and wish to use MSN messenger.
I have MSN messenger 6.2 but when I use the hotkeys such as ALT+1 etc, they
don't work as they are supposed to.
I read on the internet that JAWS does not support MSN 6.2, so I downgraded to
to MSN 5.0, but just get the message that I must upgrade to the latest version
of MSN for it to work (it won't sign in using msn 5.0).
I run Windows 98 SE. Is there any way I can run MSN messenger (or do I have to
upgrade to XP where I can use Windows Messenger?)
