Adrian,
I'll comment on your first problem with silent web sites. I have had pretty good success using Insert+z to turn the Virtual Cursor off and back on. I think the Window-Eyes folks need to do something similar with Browse Mode from time to time.

Subject: JAWS 11 Problems

I installed JAWS 11 on Sunday after someone pointed out that it handles AP mode better than previous versions. I am experiencing the following problems:

1. I repeatedly but inconsistently encounter silence on webpages. JAWS will announce how many headings, links, etc., the page contains, but won't read anything. If I press "h," JAWS will verbalize, "No more headings on this page," even though it just told me there are five.

I've tried the usual methods, such as alt-tab and insert-escape, to get JAWS to speak, but no luck. I've also turned on the new focus alert, but although other people report similar problems to what I'm describing, in my case JAWS isn't even announcing a focus loss.

2. The concept behind anchoring placemarkers is good. However, I've come upon a strange quirk. I've experimented with them at a website that is unfortunately password-protected. Several placemarkers I've added won't stick. Instead of landing me at that spot, "k" takes me to the first heading. The solution I found by chance was to place the anchored placemarker at the nearest link. It's a workaround, not an ideal solution. Any thoughts?

3. The word count feature is potentially useful, but I'd like to copy the results in order to explore and manipulate them. However, I haven't found a way to do so, whether by a simple control-a, control-c command sequence or by virtualizing the window with the revised insert-alt-w command. Has anyone discovered a way to copy these data?

4. As for the AP mode problem, I'm having more trouble than before at
www.yahoo.finance.com
In addition to using AP mode, that website likes to stream stock quotes at you. Before JAWS 11, I figured out how to tab to both AP moade and quotes and in each case press enter to turn it off. However, now the quotes are streaming away and I can't get JAWS to the quotes link to disable this feature. They completely disrupt JAWS.

I plan to upgrade my RAM from 512 MG to 3.5 GB this weekend. Does anyone know if this upgrade could help overcome these problems? Also, can anyone assess the risk of my authorizations not being recognized? I assume with the hardware change, I will be called upon to produce my authorization disc. My system is XP Pro.

Thanks for any ideas.
