Bill! Naturally Speaking works fine with JAWS. The trick is to get Naturally Speaking installed with your particular voice profile. You have to read one of the little stories that Naturally Speaking presents on the screen in order to train it to know your voice. You could theoretically do this with the aid of a sighted person. I started the process once but never finished. I picked out the story I wanted to read and a friend read it onto my Sony digital recorder but that's as far as I got. There are two software packages allowing a blind JAWS user to install Naturally Speaking and train it by themselves. They are JawBone and J-Say. JawBone costs $590.00. That's not bad enough but it will work only with Naturally Speaking Professional which is $695.00. Chirping Bat sells them for less than that but they are still expensive. J-Say version 2.0 is just being released for $440.00 and this price includes Naturally Speaking Preferred. In addition J-Say will work with any version of Naturally Speaking from Preferred up. I use J- Say with Naturally Speaking Preferred and I can do everything I want. I can read, write and send email. I can operate Internet Explorer, Sound Forge, WinAmp, Word, Notepad, Calculator etc, all with my voice and for the most part, hands free. Sometimes I get stuck and I have to cheat with a keyboard but overall it's hands free. If I used it more maybe I would figure out how to eliminate the keyboard entirely. Once you have Naturally Speaking installed and trained with the help of J-Say and once you've used it enough to know how to operate your computer without depending on help from J-Say you can use Naturally Speaking with Window Eyes. J-Say has only been available in the United States for a couple of months so their aren't a lot of users yet. Chirping Bat is the United States importer of J-Say.
