Intermittent loss of sound, Jaws5 and XP Home

I am using JAWS 5.0 and XP Home and I am losing the JAWS voice intermittently. 
There's no particular process when it occurs although it's mostly noticed 
reading the start menus. Then it will suddenly start up again. Would anyone 
have any thoughts, please?
