Marc,

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I had a feeling that at least part of
your problem, though unstated, was that you'd gotten accustomed to tab browsing
in IE 7 and that capability seemed to have disappeared, leaving you back two
versions where anything you clicked on opened a new window. Now, I can't see
clearly enough to know the difference visually . I'm a Jaws user. But I pretty
well get the idea. And this seemed to have broken down for you and that was
disappointing.

The other distinction you make, I'm not sure what that means. I know that
sometimes a link will not go to another URL on the same site, but will open a
window that you have to close in order to get returned to where you just
started from, and in the meantime, you haven't really left that first URL, or
something of that sort. I don't know what this is called, though it causes me
no trouble when it happens, as long as I quickly "see" what's going on..

Anyway, however your stuff got itself sorted, that's great. As you say, go
figure. I had a similar experience just last evening with a Winamp problem and
finally was able to correct it without really understanding the specifics of
keyboard mapping conflicts that had allowed it to happen in the first place.
But again, I figured out what I'd inadvertently done and how to undo it, so I
guess the understanding part doesn't much matter unless I want to study
programming, page design and the like. Which I don't. So let some mysteries
remain mysteries. Go figure, indeed. Or whatever. And so forth.

All Best,
Joel

Hey Joel,

The problem was that I could only get links to open in a new window no matter
what I did. It seemed like navigating to a webpage using the address bar,
opening the file (control + o) or clicking on a favourite from the favourites
menu ended up launching a new window, not a new tab.

If I were to click a link on a webpage to navigate through it, the link would
open in the same page unless the HTML was set to make it open in a new window
of course.

I hope I am more clear now. Before it did this on any window I used, then last
night I realized that in the second window that opened -- due to opening a
link, the address bar or using my list of favourites -- actually stayed in the
same page.

And now this morning, I woke up to a notifcation that updates had recently been
installed on my computer and everything seems to be working fine, go figure.

ASo I guess I don't really need help now! I'm not sure what actually fixed the
problem though.
