What is Open Office, please?
Thought there is a spell check option in OE? Something like, spell check before 
sending... check box.

  If I understand things correctly, that spellchecker for OE is a 
  plug-in type program so if your version of jaws works with your 
  version of OE, I assume it should work with the spell checker.

  I am not so sure Open Office is terribly screenreader friendly though 
  but if you have been working with it, then you seem to have found  a 
  way to manage.
