Copying a public link on dropbox

If anyone on the list has dropbox, can you tell me how to get the link to a
file in the public folder? I tried highlighting the file, going to the dropbox
submenu, and selecting the "copy public link" option, but this didn't work. In
the documentation, they say to "right click" or "control/click" the file, but
this didn't work either.
Can someone help?
