The easiest way for you friend to accomplish this is to go to display, 
appearances and use his up or down arrow until he finds high contrasts #1 
(extra large), press Alt plus A for apply and then
Enter for okay.  This gives him a black background, yellow text and extra large 
letters.  Hope this helps.
