Good evening Hanna,

1. Flash can be made to be accessible, but often the Flash designer doesn't implement accessibility principals. You are likely not doing anything wrong.

2. I believe that Safari has an accessible version of their site. Perhaps someone on the nfbcs mailing list can help you with that. You can find the list info at http://nfbnet.org

Subject: Can't access Flash content

Hello,

Does anyone know what adjustments I need to make to JAWS version 9 in order
to access Flash content? According to Adobe, Flash and FlashPaper are
accessible. See Adobe Flash
<http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/flashplayer/> Player 9
accessibility under the heading Accessing Flash Content. Adobe tells me I
should be able to access controls and read content. When I encounter Flash
content in Firefox 3, JAWS reads "Flash movie start" and "Flash movie end". In Internet Explorer 7, JAWS doesn't seem to see the Flash content at all. I
am a novice JAWS user, so likely I'm the one who's doing something wrong.
I'm using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2.

Sites like Safari Books Online and Scribd are using Flash to display article text and book content. I'd like to read it, but need to figure out this JAWS
Flash issue first.

Much thanks,

Hanna Kutcher
