I was about to ask whether Derbyshire was where the famous thick cream (almost like whipped cream) comes from, but upon reflection, I think it is Devonshire, hence Devonshire Cream, though my spelling may be a little off. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt Sent: Friday, October 01, 2010 2:34 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: [Bulk] Re: JAWS 11.0.1471 I think of Derbyshire as the northernmost of England's Midland counties. If you have a picture in your head of Britain's shape, with Wales bulging out to the west and East Anglia to the east, Derbyshire's northern boundary with Yorkshire marks the point where the island narrows. The Yorkshire city of Sheffield lies on that border. When I lived in Sheffield, I had an easy bike ride into rural Derbyshire's countryside. I'm surprised Nottinghamshire isn't named as a bordering county. D.H. Lawrence wrote about this region in his first novel, "Sons and Lovers." Coal mining used to be a major industry, and anyone who has lived around coal mines knows what a toll they can take, physically and psychologically. Indirectly, I think that is Lawrence's subject. But for most of us, Derbyshire is just a beautiful, bucolic place. By the way, the suffix "shire," which I think used to indicate a sheriff's fiefdom, has come to mean simply "county," although counties settled by the Anglo-Saxons use other suffixes (Suffolk for "south people," Sussex for "south Saxons," etc.) Now, does this demonstrate what even insert-Windows-r can't do? Just my feeble attempt to escape censure for an off-topic message. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Farfar Carlson Sent: Friday, October 01, 2010 1:25 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Bulk] Re: JAWS 11.0.1471 Chris, Always wondered where Derbyshire was, so I used my newly-found insert windows r keystroke on your signature line and came up with: Derbyshire A midland county of England bounded by Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire. Lots of "shires" in your neck of the woods. While Freedom Scientific work on current versions, they also occasionally release updates for older versions. This is just standard business practice I believe. Actually I hadn't expected any updates to JAWS 11 once they started releasing beta versions for JAWS 12. Thanks for the heads-up. I especially wonder about the resolution for JAWS starting slowly. I'll want to see right away if that helps.
