Black on black

Hi
Tonight I backed up some files from my Voice note to an external drive. I
saved them in ascii so that they would be readable. However, they opened in
notepad but opened black on black so I can't read the file but can search
for a word in the files. How can I change the colors to black on white so I
am able to read the files? I am using XP and Jaws 9.
