In reference to Adobe 6 freeze-up with Jaws 5, Alan Schlank writes, "...had
much the same results. Often it seems to occur when accessing Adobe through
Internet Explorer..." <snip>

Yes, me too, had all the same troubles until I followed Tonia's advice
on this list. Tonia's advice was along the following lines...
Tips about Acrobat Reader 5. (also seems to apply to Acrobat Reader 6 )

You will find some PDF files on the web. To (directly open in Acrobat
Reader,) or to download the PDF to your hard drive instead of having it open
in your browser windows, run Acrobat Reader 5 (or 6) and press control K for
the preferences. Arrow down to options and then tab until you find display
PDF in browser and
uncheck it. That way when you enter on a link for a PDF it will either open
up directly in a new Acrobat Reader window, or give
you a download dialog and you can save the PDF to your hard drive. Then
just enter on the filename and it will open locally in Adobe Reader....

Well, that worked for me, but I guess there are hundreds of possible
combinations and permutations of hardware, software and individual settings
that influence and affect each and every circumstance? But, its worth a try
if you, like me, really need to access PDF documents.

here, I'm running XP Home, JFW5 and Acrobat Reader 6.
