Menus and alt-F4 with XP and Old Jaws versus Win 7 and Jaws 13.
I've been scripting since XP and Jaws 9.
I am not experiencing any menu or alt-F4 problem.
Of course Office 2007 and 2010 have ribbon menus but that's different.
I don't know.
If you use delay(), you may want to increase any delay.
Win 7 and machines may run a bit faster.

Subject: [jawsscripts] Menus in Windows7
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2012 11:46:58 +0100

Hi
I have a customer who was using jaws 8 with some custom scripts on a Windows XP
machine in conjunction with an application specific to this particular company.

She has upgraded to Windows7 and jaws 13. Jaws is having a problem reading the
menus in this application. The menu bar, which was not scripted for, is a
standard one, where pressing the alt key brings up the menu and you can then
arrow through the choices. Pressing Escape dismisses the menu bar.

From my remote examination just now, it seems that jaws is getting a little
confused as to when it is, or is not, in the menus. For example, if you hit alt
F for file, then arrow down, visually the focus is moving but jaws is not
reading the item. In addition, if you hit escape to drop out of the menus, jaws
thinks it is still in the menu.
So it seems as though, when the menu bar is activated, jaws thinks it is not in
the menu, but when the menu is exited, it assumes it is.

I understand noone can comment on this particular application, but I just
wonder if people have found the transition from XP to 7 alittle problematic at
all? I say this because, even under normal circumstances such as when using
Outlook on my own PC , I find that pressing alt F4 doesn't always close down
the application correctly when jaws is running, but instead sets focus to the
menu bar. I just wonder if jaws has a problem with Windows7 and menus generally?

Thanks.

Brian

Not sure if the menu problem is for all, but FS
did state in 14 that problem with IE9 was fixed.
Try highlight color. that let jaws see menus on a program I had trouble with.

I would also wonder if it is actually a standard menu or merely a
custom control that has been made to look like the standard one.

Subject: [jawsscripts] Re: Jaws 14 public beta1 is released short URL below plu
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2012 20:29:14 +0300

I read yesterday that announcement and I read that due to a change made by
Microsoft, we won't be able to use the JAWS cursor to read the entire screen
anymore, but only the current window.

So I am wondering, if we would read just the current window, will we able to
get the screen coordinates as we can do it now?

And related to this problem, in latest JAWS version, when the current window
is a command prompt and we use the JAWS cursor, JAWS doesn't announce the
screen coordinates when we use the  key combination alt+Delete as it did in
previous versions, but announce the coordinates reported to the margins of
the MS Dos window.

Because of this change, I can't use the JAWS cursor to place it in the
top-left and bottom-right corners of the MS DOS prompt window, in order to
find how big is the current window and in order to be able to drag/drop its
margins to enlarge it.

Do you know if there are other ways for finding the screen coordinates with
the JAWS cursor when the MS DOS prompt window is active?

Thanks.

Why not use the console properties window to re-size it?  That  seems
way easier than trying to grab it with the mouse.

The pair labelled 'screen buffer' lets you control the total buffer
size, while the 'window size' pair controls how much screen space is
taken up.
