Thanks for developing this. I can report that the current Tesseract does not seem like a viable alternative to the Word OCR, unfortunately. I found that the other utility creates a .tif file in a format that Tesseract does not understand. There are many variations on .tif format, and Tesseract is picky about which ones it supports. I would love to learn otherwise, but this is what my investigation found. I have some experience with Tesseract from my PDF2TXT project at http://EmpowermentZone.com/p2tsetup.exe If anyone knows of another free OCR alternative that runs on Windows, please let us know.
