Susan: It's better not to keep switching computers off and on. Standby mode
saves a bit of power. To get into this mode, assuming you've got Win XP,
it's Start menu Turn off computer, Standby... or on the keys, Windows key,

hi Jim
how do I put my computer in stand by mode?
so what your saying that when I know that I'm going to be away from the
computer for any length of time it is better to put it in stand by mode than
just let it sit there or turning it off, and then turning it back on in a
hours time.

Hi folks,
I wonder if any of you can help me. When I put my computer in to standby
mode, which as I understand is the best way to leave it if I don't intend to
use it for a while, what should I do to bring it back to life? I don't know
a lot about computers and that is one of the many things I don't know.
Thanks a bunch. Jim.
