Hi Lynette,

To use a laptop which normally doesn't have a numpad, you can set Jaws to
use a laptop keyboard layout. This then causes Jaws to treat the capsloc
key as what is known as the JawsKey instead of the insert key on a numpad.

To use the capsloc for it's original purpose one presses it twice in quick
succession.

To set the layout to the laptop configuration do the following:

When in Jaws, press the insert key and the letter j together. This will
bring the Jaws window in to focus.

Now, press enter on the options sub-menu.

Select basics and press enter.

Tab until you hear Jaws say "keyboard layout" then cursor down until you
reach the laptop option.

Now, tab to the ok button and press enter.

If you are used to the desktop layout, some keystrokes will be unfamiliar to
you. There is a list of laptop keystrokes in the Jaws help. Press insert+j
again then cursor to the jaws help sub-menu then cursor right to open the
menu. Now, cursor down the list until you reach the "Jaws keystrokes book.
Open this by pressing the right cursor then, again cursor down to laptop
keystrokes and press enter.

To read the help pane, you need to press the f6 key.

It is also possible to connect a standard USB keyboard to most laptops and
use it with the standard keyboard configuration.

I hope this helps a little.

Subject: [jaws-uk] laptop commands

Hello

Is a jaws user with a laptop with no num pad able to carry out
the same commands that require the num pad with perhaps other
keys? I will try to explain in a different way, Does jaws need
a num pad to execute all commands and functions available?

Thanks

Lynette
