Oh thank you everyone. Perhaps I should be confident that what I'm
hearing is all there is to hear. But it seems to behave strangely
e.g. I'll get onto a merged cell containing data, move up or down from
it, and then when I move back again there doesn't seem to be data
there. I'll get onto c47 which says merged cells c47 through n47,
cursor down and it puts me onto n48 instead of where I thought it
would put me c48. Then I try to bring up a list of what's in that
column, and there is no data in that column. Perhaps this is not
strange but what should happen, but I find it very difficult therefore
to try and find my way and around and understand a spreadsheet that
someone else has created with lots of merged cells in it. What is the
purpose of merging cells?

Does anyone have any particular approaches to getting an understanding
of other people's spreadsheets? I like to get a visual image in my
mind and find it very difficult when there are merged cells and I
can't cursor around as I thought I'd be able to. I must be taking the
wrong approach somehow...
