Hi Catherine... Similar.
Sometimmes when opening an e-mail, it doesn't automatically read it. In
this case it won't detect links.
Getting out with the Escape key and trying again puts it right.
I have the same set-up as you.

Using Outlook Express 6 and JAWS 7, recently I've found that urls in e-mails
aren't announced by JAWS as a link; until I press enter on them and then
JAWS says "link" and then I press enter again and the link is activated.
Has anyone else had this problem?
