Subject: [jaws-uk] Jaws and Cubase Test

  Hi all

I just thought I'd post with some initial findings about using jaws Version
7.0 and Cubase 2.2.

Now, I'm coming from the standpoint of never having seen Cubase before. I
used to own a Rowland JV1000 about 13 years ago so I know about midi,
sequencing, quantizing etc.

I was actually just on the brink of ordering Sonar and trying out the free
jaws scripts, I'm glad I didn't.

Now, I'm lucky in that a friend of mine uses Cubase with jaws 4.5 and has
been doing so for a while.

My initial thoughts are that Cubase, even for the short amount of time I've
been dabbling with it, i.e. just this weekend, is actually reasonably
accessible if you are comfortable with the jaws cursor and PC/Jaws Cursor
routing.

I had terrible trouble setting up my yamaha Tyros II with the Sonar 7 demo
version an found that Sonar out of the box is pretty poor for accessibility and
doesn't work reliably with jaws.

With Cubase, on the other hand, I had my Tyros and several soft synths set up
within an hour and was able to start recording very quickly.

Now, I'm sure there are things in Sonar 7 that Cubase doesn't have, and if I
find good enough reason to get Sonar, I'll certain invest in it, but, for the
most part, I'm having no difficulties at all with Cubase.

but, I guess it's horses for courses.

I did just want to kind of set this accessibility thing straight.

  Thanks for reading.

  Darren
