I can softload 5.21 and 5.22 no problems, but 5.23 wont load the
CDFSSoftATAPI. I have tried two different 5.23 ROMs, one from December
last year and the latest downloaded today.
The boot stops in command line mode. I did a *desktop, got a mode 28
screen and checked the modules - all the CDFS modules were dormant
although CDFSSoftATAPI was showing as 1.34

Don't know if it is relevant but I have not flashed my ROMs since
5.16. (There was a problem with Aemulor with 5.18, then came the ZP
stuff so I continued to softload).

I have 5.23 softloaded over 5.22 with the latest boot sequence and get 
no issues.

As you are trying 5.23 did you install the ZeroPain module in your 
boot sequence as well?

If you don't softload and go to 5.16 what Modules are unplugged if any 
as there could be a clash as I'm sure some modules moved around.

Also have you updated you !Boot image to the latest one.

Aemulor 2.34 works with 5.22 so you could try flashing to 5.22 after 
first making sure you have an up to date !Boot/Hard disc image and 
then try softloading 5.23. The December 5.23 may be better to try 
softloading first.
