The basic description is correct with one critical exception:
[1] - bad; very bad. Use the FQDN used by the external client *ONLY*
Turn off "friendly error message" in the browser if you want to see more
than "<duh>" error messages.
Have you examined the ISA web proy logs to see if ISA even saw the
request?

Mdaemon webmail is a web based mail & is equipped with a built-in web
server
so it doesn't require IIS to operate.
I published it on isa server 2000 with a web publishing rule as follow:
1.Destination:external IP address of isa server
2.Action:Redirect to internal IP address of mail server
3.Bridging:I didn't make any change
4.Applies to:any request
But it doesn't work.
I also published a web server as I described above too but it doesn't
work
either.When I browse the external IP of ISA srver the result is:"The
page
cannot be displayed."
Did I make wrong configurations?I made the configuration as it was
described
on web publishing help.
