IIS installs with the default settings, so if the OS is installed with all
defaults, yes, SMTP service is installed and started.

Windows server 2003 changes this. :-)

Hi Hanan

I have a feeling this may be because the mail server traffic is clashing
with the SMTP service that maybe installed on the ISA box. I think installs
and enables the SMTP service by default. I had this problem and the only
clue was in the event logs. They reported that the server couldn't be
published properly as another service was using the port. We checked the
list of Services and SMTP was there and running. We had not installed it
deliberately at all. It was the FSMO so maybe dcpromo out it there? Nothing
else was installed other than Compaq tools as it was Compaq hardware.

Hope that helps.

Bye for now.

Paul Lemonidis.

Subject: [isalist] publishing internal mail server

http://www.ISAserver.org

Hello

I'm trying to publish internal mail server on isa server, I read the
instruction in Dr Shinder book and I read the article on isa.org but nothing
work

I create a secure mail wizard on server publishing with the internal ip
address of the mail server and the external ip address of the isa server

I create protocol rule to allow smtp port 25 outbound, I create ip packet
filter for smtp port 25 for inbound, local port fixed 25 and remote port all

I can telnet the external ip address with 25 as 1.1.1.1 25 from inside I
have answer, but when I try to telnet from outside I can't no answer

As Dr Shinder said in his book you should be sure that your external ip
address is listening to the port 25, I did netsat -na to see the external
ip address with the port 25 I didn't find it , I didn't find the port 25
with my external ip address and I think here is the problem but I don't know
what I must do?

I can ping the external ip address from inside but I can't ping it from
outside

Could you please help

Best regards

hanan
