I'd go for the DHCP reservation (and do). It's actually more work to set the exclude set and use static than a simple reservation. Besides, you can gamble on DHCP reservations.

I got an easier way -- configure those workstations with static IP
addresses and exclude those from the scope :)

The reason for asking is the client has 2 DHCP servers for redundancy.

The "work around" I came up with after aGoogling for ideas
was to create a
master list of client workstations that need to retain the same IP for
things such as computer sets in ISA but I need them to be
dynamic IPs. Then
using netsh, I apply that reservation list to both DHCP
servers so that they
will always get the same IP. As for well what about if the
DHCP server that
has its IP in its scope is down, lease is set to 5 days, so I
think I can
resolve any server down within that 2 1/2 day window.
