Understood... But if it is ISA2004 (your OP just said "ISA") you have
very granular control over the VPN client segment.  You would just allow
your IM and RDP traffic, and that's it.  Otherwise, if you allow
internal people access to an internet based IM server, then you really
loose control from there...

Of course, he could always just IM from the RDP session- but the
audio/video would suck unless you have really good connection.  To be
honest, I've found that even when you set people up with audio/video IM,
they mostly just fall back to standard text chat.  But, that doesn't
look like it is your call...
