You can't send to my mail server while you're in this state, either.

The reverse lookup needs to be done on the DNS server that is authoritive
for the IP address. Most of the time, this is the ISP. However, sometimes
the ISP will delegate authority for those IP addresses to the client.

Not having a PTR record is a violation of the RFCs. If you are going to be
using a mail server on the Internet, you must understand and play by the
rules.

And yes, you will not be able to send to AOL without a PTR record, as well
as many smaller domains.
