You're right; I didn't want to help you.
That's why I offered functional (not security) reasons to place your game
server behind ISA.
Your comparison to SBS2K was irrelevant.

The fact that teenagers can install and operate a game server in no way
obligates ISA to operate with it.
"Compatibility" is a vague term at best, as it tends to be dependent on
individual issues.

The fact is, as long as the game server app allows dynamically-assigned
ports, using it ON the ISA becomes problematic.
I also pointed this out to you.
I'm done.

Jim, what do you know about HLDS, seriously...?

It's a service that it is so simple that even teenagers can configure
it. It runs on a CMD window and logs information there. You don't have
to install the game in the Server in order to run it. I think
compatibility is too basic, and from my conception, ISA does what I
want, lots of people do exactly the same thing. I doubt that the only
services that would run OK on ISA would be those that were MS-certified.

Yes, it's safer to say that you should run only what has been tested
(for purposes of certified environments, security, etc...), but its pure
IP and ISA theory! That's my point of view. I configured applications 50
times more untested and poorly-designed than HLDS on ISA server and they
work like a charm.

I don't want to keep fighting here. If you don't want to help me out,
don't answer. Create a rule in your Outlook and filter me.

The last time I checked, no game servers shipped with SBS2K.
All services that shipped with that product were tested and verified to
work
with ISA when they and ISA were properly configured.
It's a common misconception that "because I want it" is what MS should
provide.
ISA was designed as an enterprise firewall; not a gaming platform.

No, i'm stuck in "I can't do it any other way" mode.

All services that i run (http, SMTP, POP3) must be published? I can't
run, for an instance, IIS locally on my ISA?

If that's true, then ISA shouldn't be included on Small Business Server
2000! All services run on the same machine (although it can be run on
another machine, but most setups are made on a single machine).

I gave you a viable solution; you're just stuck in "I wanna do it my
way"
mode.
ISA wasn't designed to do what you want.

Okay, i give up.

I'll solve this on my own. I didn't want to violate anything, bother no
one... But it is just too difficult to ask something and get the answer
i need. It's so simple!

All replies i got questioned my infrastructure, the way i built... i
know what i'm doing. It's not a critical application. I can't afford
another Box just to put a game Server inside.

> Okay Jim, but think with me:

But you are missing the point.

A firewall to protect something.

Game servers on programmed, built and designed to work, which means
around
firewalls.

You are trying to violate one of the most basic security principles
there
is, and to be asking experts for a solution to violate that is akin to
asking a fireman on how to start a fire.
