To check for DNS server issues, use NSLOOKUP at a command prompt... First try to resolve one of the problematic names from your default DNS server (internal)... If that fails, then set the server in NSLOOKUP to one of the forwarders and try again to resolve the address. Of course, if you have multiple servers that's you're forwarding requests to, check them each in turn... It may just be one of the remote servers having a problem... Please advice. this is very irritating problem. Sometimes I can't open any sub pages from yahoo, Microsoft & NAI and then after a couple of hours they are opened fine and another set of pages is down. This morning I tried to open a normal page and here is what I get. The Web site cannot be found The Web site you are looking for is unavailable due to its identification configuration settings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Please try the following: Click the Refresh button, or try again later. If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. This is where I found the problem to be. Thats really confusing !! Please advice. Somehow, someway, my DNS forwarders were changed to addresses that apparently don't exist or at least don't respond to ping. I changed them back to the DNS provided by my ISP and all is working now. The symptoms were that Internet access was working for many websites for not for others. In particular support.microsoft.com, www.symantec.com, live update and www.antivirus.com were not accessible while www.msn.com and www.yahoo.com were. I thought I was looking for a virus but it turned out to be the DNS forwarders. I am left to wonder how the DNS forwarders got changed in the first place though.
