If users are logging onto your network with their own pc's, then that's going to be the cause of all your woes. There should be NO access from vpn clients that are not members of the domain, for the simple fact that you have no control at all over users own pc's unless you're going to visit each and every one of them to check them out.. All vpn clients should be members of your domain in order for you to be able to control access rights and security. If they have to use their own pc's, then either use TS or citrix for these clients. This core problem, as I see it, is the lack of ability to securely control the client. Maybe it is just me being paranoid, but in most security designs I see the VPN clients as being the weakest link, which is why this is the area I focus much of the energy. Do you know of anyway to lock down the VPN client other than stripping the user of his local admin rights? It would be great if the was continuing process that monitored the client computer to make sure that it maintained the required level of security (Firewall, Antivirus, Routing table etc.) after the tunnel has been established, instead of only checking it during the connection phase.
