Is there any way that can be set in group policy? I looked around in the
gpo editor but came up empty.

OK, are the browsers all configured to use integrated auth? (as configured
in the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box)?

Nope, The ISA box is configured to use internal DNS servers. I double
