Most, if not all, cable modems store the MAC address of the interface they
are connecting to and will not talk to another MAC address. You need to
UNPLUG the cable modem for about 30 seconds, plug it back in and allow it to
get stable 1-2 minutes, then run ipconfig /renew from the command line on
the ISA box. Should fix your problem.

Subject: [isalist] ISA North Interface not assigned and IP address

http://www.ISAserver.org

I am currently using an ISA server behind the linksys router. It is
primarily used for cache even though I have it installed in integrated mode.
In any case, I removed the linksys router and decided to put the ISA server
at the edge of my network. I connected the External Interface to the cable
modem and the internal interface to a hub that connects my internal network.
I rooted both the cable modem and the ISA server but the external NIC was
not assigned an IP address. It read: 0.0.0.0. I know that the cable modem
works because once I connected the linksys router back I was able to get on
line just fine. Anyone of you guys out there has some instructions on how to
get this working. I read the article on the isaserver site but that didn't
help. Thank you,
