The shortname (no dots in URL) will go to the "Intranet Zone" in IE and
those settings are applied. If there are dots in the URL, it IE may use
a different zone for that URL. Check how your authentication is
configured for the appropriate zones and what zones a given URL might
end up in.

I'm running into an intriguing problem with ISA2004. Authentication
credentials aren't being passed to IIS servers on our local network.

If I type in http://hostname <http://hostname/> , it will pass the
proper credentials, if I type in http://hostname.mapsnet.org
<http://hostname.mapsnet.org/> , it will NOT pass the authentication
information.

I played around with several variations in the internal Network
properties in ISA2004, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
The closest I can get is to bring up a login box when I add the specific
hostname to the "Directly access these servers" portion, it is still
stripping the credentials.
