Hi All

Get them to reword the advertisement if possible. The term handicap is also
used in golf or polo!

Suzanne

Hi folks, I was talking with a friend earlier who quickly read out a
notice to me about a Mrs Quinn collection. I want to see what other people
think about this and I know that there are people from NCBI head office on this
list so I would urge you to think about this and just think of where I am
coming from with it. I have also contacted the number on the notice and I was
told that I have to put my complaint in writing.

My complaint is this, on the leaflet which is being distributed with
the Mrs Quinn bags for people to donate clothes the word handicapping is used.
I can't quote the full context in which it is being used but I strongly object
to the use of this word and am seeking for it to be removed from the leaflets.
I feel that in this day and age a dreadful word like that shouldn't be used and
we are trying to educate people as to use words like vision impaired or even
blind but I do not like the word handicapped or anything like it. St. Joseph's
in Grace park road in Drumcondra had the words visually handicapped written
over their gates at one time but they were removed and rightly so. I would
love to hear others views on this and I do not intend to leave it at this.

        Cheers, Nicky.
