Just for clarification and to make sure he's doing everything
right: He first sends an email to that address you gave me with
nothing in the subject line and nothing in the body of the
message. When he gets the email asking him to confirm, he simply
hits reply without writing anything in the body of the email Is this
all correct?

My friend sent an email to the address you gave me. He got
something back from them asking he to reply/confirm, which he
did. He then got an email back saying, and I'm not kidding, he had
"the wrong cookie." Can you make any sense of this or know what he should do?
