At 7:00 p.m. on March 11, 2010, I will present a groundbreaking
look at an important branch of the civil rights revolution of the 1960's
and 1970's -- the disability rights movement. This movement is
often overlooked, but it was truly a revolutionary effort.
The founders of that movement began the journey of an entire class of the
American population up from utter powerlessness, and New York City was at
the forefront of this battle. Yet the story of the New York City
beginnings of the disability rights movement has never been publicly
discussed, anywhere -- until now.
This talk is sponsored by the New York City Parks Department, and will
take place at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, 3 Clarkson
Street. This location is accessible by persons with
disabilities.
