I have accidentally setup my screen to to high a resolution on the ubuntu
desktop, and it is showing out of range, how can I change it or interupt the
boot process next time to change the screen resolution?
In the GRUB screen, press `e' to edit the kernel line, and add an `S'
to the end of the line, press enter and then `b' to boot. That should
take you to single user mode, and you can reconfigure xserver-xorg or
manually edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and go to the ordinary runlevel
using init 2.
HTH.
