We develop, implement and support enterprise management software running on
Linux/PostgreSQL/Apache-PHP
FOSS applications
All our clients have one server running the above FOSS software and our
application over it. Most of the clients are manufacturing units and 2 of
them are suppliers to manufacturers. We focus on leather / footwear industry
which is a traditional processing/manufacturing industry. The servers are
running in Ranipet, Ambur, Vaniyambadi (small town leather processing
centres in Tamil Nadu), Chennai and in Burkina Fasso (West African nation).
We develop our application for FireFox and all client systems are provided
with FireFox browser to use our application.
Market Challenges
Offering low cost, reliable and trust worthy service is the key to success.
Our typical client is not familiar with modern enterprise software
applications and expect a service similar to Tally in price and usability.
We could start with low pricing (with no added licensing cost) and offer
multitude of benefits (secure access over network, provided with source
code, customized service, tailor made modifications).
FOSS support
We need a base Linux install (mostly Fedora, lately Open SuSe) with
development libraries. We compile PostgreSQL, Apach/PHP from source. We have
an SVN checkout of files in servers.
Maintaining and upgrading support applications and our scripts are never a
problem.
Summary
Have atleast 25-30 servers running Linux/Apache/PHP and upto 100 Desktops
running FireFox browser. Most of these are first computers for the companies
operating in rural Tamil Nadu.
