[Ilugc] problem in compiling linux kernel source

what i did was(nothing tedious)
---dwnloaded linux 2.6.0 kernel source
why 2.6.0? Or is it a typo?
---after uncompressing i created a folder in /home dir
standard practise is to unpack it in /usr/src
---then in terminal i executed the cmd--make menuconfig
---two err
---1. scripts/kconfig/mconf.c 91 static declaratin of 'current_menu'
follows nonstatic declaration
---2 scripts/kconfig/lkh.c 63 previous declaration of 'current_menu' was
here
what version of gcc are you using? A couple of search results point to
gcc but maybe further information will help.
