Hello,
I just bought a KM400A mother board which has a Via 8233 sound chipset
onboard (ALSA module: snd-via82xx). The mother board appears totally
futuristic to me since the last mobo that I bought was a 'tomato' for
an AMD K6 500 MHz :)
Now, I've setup ALSA to load the appropriate module for my card and
when I do mplayer /whatever/whatever.wav, it does seem to be "playing"
but I donot hear anything inspite of setting _everything_ listed by
'amixer' to 'full'.
So here are my (possibly off-topic) questions:
1. What does the term 'front panel' in the context of a mother board
refer to? My mother board manual claims this:
"If you donot want to connect to the front-audio header, pins 5 &
6, 9 & 10 have to be jumpered in order to have signal output
directed to the rear audio ports. Otherwise. the Line-out
connector on the back panel will not function".
So I did. I have jumpered 5&6 and 9&10. but When I do something
like cat /bin/ls >/dev/dsp, I donot hear the "usual"
line-noise. but there are load and spaced-out click sounds (much
similar to someone tapping @10bpm).
2. My cabinet's interior has two 0.5" stereo jacks (which actually
opens out on the front-side of the cabinet as two stereo sockets).
Note that these two 0.5" jacks are found in the
interior. ie.,. along with the wires for HDD LED, POWER LED,
etc.,. My question is: How does one connect this to the mother
board? My mother board does not have any compatible 0.5" stereo
sockets on it (except the 'real panel (ie,., if I understood what
'rear panel' means correctly)).
It would be highly helpful if some noble soul that has had experience
with such mother boards can shed light.
thanks!
