You are looking for a soft phone hook right? There are plenty of options for
that. (I think)

Nothing to do with telephone. You implement a telephone with speaker and
mic and a GUI in software.

Secondly, I considered JTAPI (Java Telephony API) but there is only the JTAPI 
specification available and no reference implementation.

When there is javascript, why go for Java?

If anyone has crossed similar lines, pls drop me some references.
