I am guessing, when disconnected, NetworkManager disabled lo as well or
did something similar. Unless we spend some time debugging, it will be
hard to explain why it happens. Also, I have experienced quirky issues
such as these with
NetworkManager before and they are not worth debugging.
Probably it puts Firefox in offline mode? Check for that.
