Looks like we were barking up the wrong tree then.
This is a very simple problem easily fixed. Your MBR
has got corrupted. Get a Debian rescue floppy or CDROM
or even a Windoze floppy or whatever and install an
MBR.
It is in Windoze
C:> fdisk /mbr
Under linux you have to use lilo or grub. Though the
particular command I don't recollect.
Is that a new disk? Or old one? Did you install
something else already? Since in a new disk the odds
of such a thing happening are one in a million.
