We are having a small level email marketing company for the past few years,
we used to mail to more than a lac of mails daily, we use Sendmail installed
in an empty serve with CentOS as OS, it performs like anything for this
capacity of mailing, we face no issues with the sendmail.
We tried with mail enable and a windows server but it never performs well
for a mailing of over 20k daily.
In my point of view Sendmail is the best

e-mail clients have nothing to do with MTAs. They are two different
things.
Again there is postfix and qmail that are also quite a big powerful.
exim is the only g*****e.
Actually there is no really free MTA that is also really secure. So if
you can write one that is really really good then I am sure many OSes
will pick it up.
People are frustrated with sendmail's poor history of security bugs and
complexity, postfix has licensing problems, qmail is in public domain
and is "weird".
People don't like public domain software.
There is a good opportunity. But writing an MTA is also really really
hard.
