wget (commandline) is my choice any day.

Wget is so incredibly good that it is considered
somewhat blasphemous
to write a downloader yourself :-) So most of the
"download managers"
for Unix that you'd find are nothing more than
pretty wget frontends.
Anything that's not a wget frontend is likely to be
far inferior.



From experience, if one was to dedicate a computer to
download files in a dialup connection, then wget (with
no extra options) can't suit that job, bcoz, for that
axel usually gets the file more quicker than wget.
