But Iris scanners are used as a secure log in !

Facial recognition - Disadvantage of having photographs and getting
through the security.
Iris and retinal scans - You cannot use photographs to get through.
Read wikipedia articles on Biometric Scanning techniques.

There is a clear difference in the above techniques.
