Before you venture into your own mailing list + the underlying
infrastructure, I would suggest answer the following to yourself.
What is the size of the membership of this mailing list?
What is the expected traffic of this mailing list?
How many people do you have to monitor the server and take care of
spammers and follow up with real time blacklist lists (in case you get
blacklisted)?
Also consider *free* (as in beer) options like Yahoo! and Google groups.
